Lesson Plan:
CUSTOMIZE YOUR RIDE
(45 minutes)
Objective:
Students will thoughtfully work through the interest
inventory to prepare for understanding their personal style profile.
Resources:
Internet access for each student.
Approach:
- Discuss with students what characteristics make individuals unique
(e.g., fingerprints, height, weight, combination of likes and dislikes.)
Distinguish between those that are external and which can be easily
seen, and those that are more internal.
- Indicate that the first
section of the Drive of Your Life Web site – Customize
Your Ride – recognizes that each person
is unique, and that one way to explore interesting careers is
to take an inventory of personal likes and dislikes, strengths
and abilities.
- Have students log on and read through the instructions
page (the Important: Please Read section). Ask for questions.
- Emphasize
the following:
• There are no right or wrong answers – it’s
what you like to do.
• Pick one answer for each question.
• Take enough time to think about how you feel, not what you think
someone else would like. That’s the only way the results
will be meaningful.
• With every eight questions you answer, you will have the opportunity
to pick a car and customize it for the rest of the activities
on the site.
- Have each student begin the interest inventory.
- At the completion
of the interest inventory, students will view their completed
car, create a personalized “vanity plate” for
their car, and receive their three-letter personal style
code reflecting their answers to the 48 questions.
Assignment:
If students run out of classroom time to complete the
inventory, it can be completed as a homework assignment, or picked
up again during the next class session.
For Further Discussion:
1. Ask the students
what other personality tests they have taken, if any. Do they
remember what the results said about them?
